4 months

Well my baby is turning 4 months tomorrow!  I just can't believe how fast time has gone by!  She's starting to  reach out and grab her toys, roll over from back to tummy and tummy to back, and she's finally starting to squeal/laugh.

It's been a tough couple of weeks with my husband being on his two weeks for the military.  She's starting to teeth and it's been getting to me and the animals.  But even though she's being grumpy, she still squeals and talks to us happily.

Her grandpa had her try some mashed potatoes last week and she loved them!  I had her try some bananas today but she gave the weirdest faces. She doesn't enjoy them quite yet but I'm sure soon she will.

Giggles, Toys and Doctor's Visit

Kerrigan giggled for the first time today!  I love being able to wake her up in the mornings and see her smiley face. :)  She's such a happy baby.  I just can't believe how happy she is!

We bought her a new toy on Monday called the jumperoo from Walmart.  It has a center seat that spins all the way around and toys all the way around it.  She loves it!  She's not quite tall enough to reach the floor yet so we bounce her in it and play with the toys for her.  Yesterday she reached out and started spinning one of the toys!  I think she's finally starting to grasp her hand eye coordination skill.

This morning she held her bottle up by herself!   She's growing up so fast!
On Monday, July 16, we took Kerrigan in to see her doctor because she spits up after every feeding and after she burps.  She diagnosed her with acid reflex and told us to give medication every 12 hours to see how that does for her.  So far nothing but she did tell us to at least give it two weeks to see if it will work or not.  I'm really hoping it does!

Roll over and push it!

Oops I did it again!  I've just been so busy with Baby K I keep forgetting to post updates!
Well on June 29th, she rolled over for the first time!

And on July 7th she did her first mini push up!  I'm so proud of my little girl!

Vacation and 2 Month Shots

I’m so sorry that it’s been over 3 weeks since my last update!  I’ve been on vacation and getting the house back together before going back to work tomorrow.  So I’ve been pretty busy as of late.

I left to travel to my parents place (which is in North east in Indiana) around 3:30 in the afternoon on June 5th.   I had to get the car’s oil change before we left in West Plains, Mo.  We left the dealership around 5 and started our journey up north.  She fussed for a little bit and we had to stop in Houston, Mo for a bite to eat and gas.  The sun was bothering her so I decided to put blankets on the back windows to help her sleep.  Once the sun was down, she only woke up a couple of times to eat and change her diaper - once in Effingham, IL and Indianapolis, IN.  We arrived at my parents house around 5 in the morning and surprised both of them.  They weren’t expecting me until around 10 since I was with her and they thought I was going to try to take a nap on the way up there.  Mom HATED to leave us since she had to go to work but she had to go.  Their dogs were pretty excited to see us and miss Sadie just LOVED Kerrigan.  :)

We had a nice relaxing 2 weeks while we were up there.  We went to my Mom’s family reunion to show off Baby K and they just loved her!  Grandma was really excited to meet her first great-granddaughter, my cousins Ric and Jessie were just as excited, and Aunt Peg was just loving all over her.  Mom’s and Dad’s neighbors, Jason and Rachel, were more than happy to come over almost every night to see Baby K and I.

An amazing thing happened while we were up there.  She began to sleep through the night!  Oh and it has been such a blessing!  We figured out she was getting cold while she slept at night and that’s what kept waking her up.  I’m so glad we figured that out!

We had to leave Mom and Dad’s on the 18th because she had an appointment with her doctor for her 2 month shots.  She screamed bloody murder when she was getting the shots but settled right down after getting some love from me.  The doctor said everything is normal except she has eczema.  So we have to use special laundry soap and a special kind of lotion.  I forgot to mention that she is also allergic to Johnson and Johnson’s baby lotion too. :/  I swear she is becoming allergic to everything… but we’ll get through it and hopefully she’ll get over the eczema as she grows up!

Busy Busy Busy!

Ugh!  I've been so busy I keep forgetting to update this blog! :/  So I've decided I'll start updating it at least every Saturday just to keep up with everything that is going on.  On the 23rd, we took Kerrigan to her Pediatrician because her face was broke out.  We thought it was just acne at first but it got to the point where it didn't look very good and I was getting worried she was getting an allergy from the animals.  Turns out it's completely normal!  Yay!

Over Memorial weekend, we decided to spend some time with David's grandparents in Charleston, Mo.  They absolutely loved her!  Even their one year old beagle, Annabelle, fell in love with her. :)  We went up to Cape Girardeau, Mo to the mall, spent about half a day there, and got some nice clothes for Baby K.

Kerrigan took up with Great Grandma Kitty quite quickly and just loved to be held by her.

Then when we got home, Kerrigan was having a huge fit.  David and I tried everything and just couldn't figure out what was wrong.  Here comes Great Grandpa Danny to the rescue!  We handed her off to him and within 2 minutes she was sound asleep.

Of course, so was he!  :)

When we got back home, we noticed her cradle cap was getting really bad again and decided to try baby oil on it.  It seemed to work really good until I woke up Friday morning (6-1-2012) and noticed her whole face was swollen!!

We rushed her to the doctor where the determined she's allergic to baby oil and put her on prednisone for 3 days.  We have to take her back on Monday for a recheck but so far it's looking great!  The swelling has gone down a ton and you hardly notice she even was swollen!  Thank God!

After my car appointment on Tuesday, Baby K and I are going to make our way up north to Indiana to see my parents and the rest of the family.  I can't wait to show her off!

Update

It's been a while since I've updated!  Sorry about that!  Kerrigan is doing so much better after we changed her formula to the Enfamil gentlease.  Hardly any gassy moments and she's hardly fussy.  Only when she wants to be held, or food.  You know, the normal stuff.  She's got really bad pimples all over her face and I feel so bad for her even though I know it doesn't bother her one bit.  My father in law told us to make sure we wash all the soap off and to not put lotion on her cheeks.  So hopefully that'll help out :)  She's starting to have good bowel movements event though she's still frustrated while pushing.  I kinda giggle when she's pushing and her face turns red and then she looks at me and starts crying.  I'm guessing she thinks I can help her some how...Wish I could!  She's starting to sleep through the night pretty good too.  She's wakes up about every 4 hours so all of us are getting enough sleep!
We did a photo shot for Mother's Day so I can send pictures to my Grandma and Mama!

First Pediatric Appointment

Kerrigan had her first pediatric appointment this morning.  She did so well!  She is 20 3/4 inches long and 8 pounds, 6 1/2 ounces.  She said her weight is right on and we don't have to come back until she is two weeks old.  She also said that her sneezing and hiccuping is all normal because of her undeveloped central nervous system.  That makes me feel so much better!  I was really afraid she was becoming allergic to the cats and dog.  The doctor gave her a clean bill of health so I can finally relax! :)

Birth Story April 20, 2012

We arrived at Mercy hospital around 8:30pm and got checked in. We stayed in room ob 10 in labor and delivery and our night nurse was Amanda. She was very nice and helped me relax a bit as I was very nervous about being induced. She put me on an iv of lactated ringers and oxytocin to help get my contractions started. She said the contractions were all over the place but starting to get closer together.

Around 11:30pm, the nurse checked my cervix and said I was almost 3 cm!! She said she's been increasing the oxytocin every time she comes in to the room. I can feel the pain of the contractions slightly now and they are coming 2 to 4 minutes apart. They had to bring in a doctor to break my water, which was the weirdest feeling I have ever felt but it was not painful. Then they brought in Dr. Yassa to give me an epidural. He was very nice and he explained everything he was doing to me while putting the epidural in. He tried to put the epidural in my lower lumbar region but there was so much pressure in my back I couldn't stand it. The pain was in my left lower back and it went down my entire left leg. He tried 3 separate times to place the catheter but couldn't do it. They gave me pain medication in my iv instead that only lasted 2 hours. I was thankfully able to get a little sleep during the night before I really started to feel the contractions.

Around 6:30 am, my contractions were so severe I thought I was going to go insane from the pain. The pain medication they were giving me through the iv was not touching the contractions. I would have a contraction, ride it out, and pass out in exhaustion but before I knew it, I was having another contraction again. Dr. Yassa came back in and he was able to place a catheter in my upper lumbar region. Amanda helped me so much by letting me lean on her for support while the doctor placed the catheter. It felt so nice to finally be rid of the pain I was feeling and I was able to get some real sleep before the daytime nurse, Sarah, came in to check my cervix. While Sarah was in the room, she noticed Kerrigan's heart rate fall as well as my blood pressure and they put me on oxygen. I was so scared something was happening to her but in a matter of minutes my blood pressure went back up and so did her heart rate. At 8am Sarah proclaimed I was 9 centimeters along and said she'd be back in in hour to check again.

By 9:30 am I was ready to push! It felt so weird to push. I felt so much pressure I thought I was going to be ripped apart! I was not expecting all of the pressure when I was crowning and I thought the epidural would have taken that all away. Boy was I wrong!! But she came out with only pushing for 30 minutes! I also had no tears which surprised all of the nurses and doctors! In total I was in labor for 11 hours and 40 minutes. She weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces and was 21 inches long with her head circumference being 13 ½.

Being Induced Pt. 1

I'm so nervous about being induced.  I have no idea what to expect or the pain I'm going to be in.  It finally hit David last night about having a baby.  He went around the house looking at her nursery and other items.  He's excited but nervous.  I can tell.  Not going to the hospital until 8 tonight so I guess I just need to chill out for now.

Tickling

On Sunday I thought little Kerrigan's butt was sticking out and when I went to poke it, she reared back and kicked me good in one of my organs. :)  I tickled her little foot!  Oh I just can't wait until you decide to come out!

36 Week Appointment

I wasn't able to see the doctor because she was called out 3 times for delivery while I was waiting for my appointment.  But the good news is about that is the nurse said she likes to do her patients deliveries instead of another doctor!  Good to know!  The nurse checked my cervix and told us it's soft and Kerrigan's head is directly on it!  No wonder I have been feeling pelvic pressure!  She said she would rather see patients go in to labor between 38 and 40 weeks but will not stop the labor process at this point.  So hopefully she'll hold on just a bit longer!  Oh and I'm 25 years today :)

35 Week Doctor's Appointment

She said Kerrigan's head is down in the right position and the uterus feels like it's farther along than expected this week.  I have to go in next week for her to check my cervix and do some tests.  I'm so excited on seeing my little girl!

Hiccups

I woke to hiccups yesterday morning. :)  She was just hiccuping a storm.  35 weeks today!!  Can't wait to see our baby girl :)

Dermatologist

I went to the Dermatologist on Tuesday and that was a real trip. :/  Google took me way past I-44 in Springfield and the stupid building was just inside of Springfield...so I wasted about a good half an hour trying to find the place because of google.  I was twenty minutes late to my appointment but they were really nice about it and understood.  Thank God!  I hate being late for appointments!  He looked at my skin and basically told me that it was something that is common in about 1% of women who are pregnant and that the bumps will not go away until after I have little Kerrigan.  So I guess I'll just have to stay high on the antihistamine capsules my Ob-GYN gave me and deal with it.  When I was leaving, the receptionist that looked like she was in her fifty's, asked me if I needed a paper for school.  I was in shock but didn't say a word.  All I did was give her a dirty look and walked away.  I'm flattered she thinks I'm that young but annoyed because there were a whole bunch of people in there that now probably thought I was another teenage pregnancy statistic. :/

Bumps

Went to the OB doctor today for a normal check up.  Everything was normal!  Kerrigan is right at 31 weeks and her heartbeat is 140bpm.  I mentioned to her all of these little bumps that have come up in the past week and a half and showed them to her.  She basically freaked out and told me I need to see a dermatologist.  They're supposed to call me with-in 3 days to get me an appointment.  She did send home a cream and antihistamines to help with the itching until I can see the dermatologist.  I'm really sensitive to antihistamines so I'm a little nervous about taking them.  At least it's the weekend.

Bath Time #2

Still soaking in the baking soda bath thanks to all the bumps on my body.  We're going to the doctor tomorrow to see why they're there.  But while I'm soaking, David's cat Kunai, likes to come in the bathroom and see what I'm doing.  Every night.  She'll get on the side of the tub and look at the water then look at me like I'm crazy.  She then proceeds to talk to me the entire time I'm soaking which in turn wakes Kerrigan up and she moves around like crazy.  :)

Bath Time

So I have been having to soak in a baking soda bath per doctor's orders with all of the infection that has been going on every night.  Well I have come to figure out that this is now Mother/Daughter time.  Kerrigan moves around so much while I'm laying in the tub!  I talk to her and she just moves around like no bodies business.  I'm falling in love with this little girl more and more each day :)

3 Hour Glucose Test

I hope I never have to do that again.  I got to the hospital lab around 8am and wasn't finished until 11:15am.  I was so weak once they were done taking 35 cc of blood and not being able to eat.  It didn't help that I had to go up there by myself because David had to work this week.  But I'm just so happy it's over with.  Should get the results on Friday or Monday.

Edit:  Turns out she called me about 4 hours after I finished the test and I'm negative!!  Thank God!  One less thing to worry about :)

Test Results

So the test results came back today.  I not only have a severe yeast infection, I also have a urinary tract infection and a staph infection.  :/

Infection and Lab Work

So Monday I realized that there was something wrong with down there.  I called my nurse and she told me to take monostat 7.  So I started it on Monday night and when I woke up Tuesday morning, it was so swollen it felt like a Shar-Pei's lip.  Don't know what that feels like?  Well it's pretty darn swollen :/  So I called my family doctor because I knew Dr. Litherland isn't in on Tuesdays.  Went in and they confirmed it was a severe yeast infection (you could smell it) and maybe a bladder infection with glucose coming thru on the urine test strip.  They called Dr. Litherland's office and they told me to get to the hospital right away so they could look at me.  The nurse confirmed a yeast infection but wasn't sure about the bladder infection.  I had to do blood work anyway so they sent me to the lab for a cbc, urinalysis, and a urine culture.  The nurse called me back today to let me know that the cbc did have some white blood cells, which could be normal, and the glucose is high.  The urine culture won't be back until tomorrow but she'll call me to let me know about it then.  I have to go in for the 3 hour glucose test some time next week.  I am not looking forward to it but I want to make sure everything will be okay with little Kerrigan.

Stress

Very stressful day.  Taking care of a foster puppy (not my choice) who I had potty trained and now went back to his old ways, had to work today so I had to take David's crappy car (which by the way does not like me), went over to his uncle's to trim his dogs' nails, clipped one too short and it looked like I murdered him, then David calls to tell me that he's leaving for deployment in December instead of January and he's going to Afgan instead of Kuwat (great..), and fell over the bed rail that's in the living room since we hadn't had the time to work on the back room floor to move everything back in and I almost landed on a nail that was sticking straight up.  Thank God I only landed on the stupid kitchen light but I do have a nice round bruise.  I'm just exhausted from all the stress and frustration.  But good news is I'm finally in the third trimester.  So not that much longer until I see our baby girl!

Grandma was enjoying the candy diaper game

We got a little tutu for little Kerrigan!

It was at this point I realized I'm really going to be a mommy!

Mom and Dad bought us a car seat!

Holiday Rush

We've been on vacation for the past week up at Mom and Dad's in Indiana.  We also had the baby shower while we were up there.  We got TONS of stuff!  But during this time, little Kerrigan was moving up a storm!  I can now even notice her moving my stomach!  We also ordered her crib and mattress today!  I can't wait for our little muffin to get here! :)
